ENGAGE! ...the youth that is
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

On April 25th, students from 3 high schools in Timmins came together to share their ideas for making our community a better place. It was an inspiring, impressive, amazing day and I couldn't be more proud of the youth who participated.

As I sat there on the stage beaming from ear to ear, I just couldn't believe how brilliant, well thought-out and entirely plausible each of the proposals were. I mean, these youth came up with ideas that make so much sense I can't understand why the community isn't already doing the things they suggested.

The proposals addressed 3 separate community issues: Waste Management, Bilingualism and Nutrition in Schools. All 3 were published in the Timmins Daily Press as a special insert and I encourage everyone to try and get your hands on a copy and see for yourselves how incredible they are.

I am so happy to have organized such a great day...the proposals, the debate, the interaction with their local government - it really was a stellar opportunity and not just for the youth, but for all of us to pull our heads out of the sand and realize the potential, the benefit, the capabilities of young people in our communities.

Give them their voice, their moment, their power...they deserve it, they'll embrace it and you won't regret it.
